I bought this item before to fly with my 2 labradors and had no issues. I only needed to replace the plastic bolts with steal bolts and nuts (as required by the company). I'm moving again now and I didn't hesitate to buy the same kennels (I sold the ones I previously bought).

I have bred & shown dogs for over 45 yrs and have used this company's crates especially for travel since they were first on the market. I will be back to buy one that I owe a fellow breeder when the size is in stock. Best price anywhere.
Judith A on Oct 19, 2017
Size, type of door latch and price, great sale price here on 1800petsupplies today. I've seen Sky Kennels in the past and for basic plastic crates they are a bit more sturdy and the large and up sizes have much more durable door latches. Would have liked a Ruff Tough but just can't afford it in XL size my dog needs right now.

This is the second Sky Kennel that I've purchased for my 50# Aussie. I use it to transport her in the backseat of my Subaru Forester. The first one was recently damaged in a serious auto accident. Despite major damage to my vehicle and damage to her Sky Kennel, she was shaken but suffered no injuries. I am so thankful she did not have free run of my vehicle. She might not have survived without her Sky Kennel.

Terry G on Mar 15, 2017
I am a Labrador retriever breeder and this product is airline compliant with plenty of room for my 15 lbs pups. Just buy extra metal bolts and the airline applies the quick release tie downs. I have shipped all over US about 20 times. I trust this product. only received one cracked kennel and they replaced it promptly. It was an order of 6 and it was on the bottom. I think weight related.

I need to purchase to transport my dogs by airline from San Diego to Hawaii?
A shopper on Aug 22, 2014
BEST ANSWER: IATA dictates the size of the crate based on your pet's measurements.

"The calculated dimensions are internal container dimensions.
A = length of animal from tip of nose to base/root of tail.
B = height from ground to elbow joint. A+1?2 B = length of container.
C = width across shoulders or widest point (whichever is the greater). Cx2 = width of container.
D = height of animal in natural standing position from top of the head or the ear tip to the floor
(whichever is higher) / height of the container (top flat or arched)
Minimum internal container dimensions:
A + ½ B = Length C x 2 + Width D = Height
Snub nosed breeds require 10% larger container"
Hello.

I would need this crate in size large.

what size dog max??
A shopper on Jan 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: We transported a 60 lbs Catahoola very comfortably in this. I can see a Golden Retriever or Labrador fit just as well. The limitations on international flights (which was put use scenario) are more limited due to strict size regulations by the IATA.

does it have dividers to allow for growth?
Laurie F on Dec 28, 2014

I have cats 15lbs each what size kennel should I purchase for air travel?
alfred o on Aug 23, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Hello Alfred,
I wish I could help you more, but we had a lot of problems with the airline, United, and the crate. According to the website chart our 30 lb beagle fit into a medium crate. He fit in it well and was able to turn around and sit properly. However, United forced us to up size at the airport right before we were to board an international flight. This was a huge ordeal, as we were moving overseas and flew out of a Newark, NJ -- several states away from any family members. United charged us for the up size, kept our brand new crate and gave us a used dirty one in its place. We had contacted United many times to ensure we had everything right. But, it obviously comes down to the person working the pet counter.
Good luck to you.
Small carrier dog weight?
A shopper on Apr 25, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The small carrier approximate weight is 8.25 lbs as listed in the product summary.
What size for a pit bull that weighs close to 70 pounds?
A shopper on Nov 8, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Depending upon height of dog, you will need a 400 or a 500 for shipping with airlines. Domestic flights require 1" clearance above head while standing, plus room to turn around. Int'l flights require 3" clearance above head. If you are wanting it for crating in your home, you may want a roomier, larger crate if dog will sleep in it or spend some time in it during the day.
How much weight in this kennel?
A shopper on May 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Small: Actual Weight: 8.25 lbs
Medium: Actual Weight: 12.25 lbs
Intermediate : Actual Weight: 15.50 lbs
Large: Actual Weight: 21 lbs
X-Large: Actual Weight: 30 lbs
Giant: Actual Weight: 51.50 lbs

Can sky kennels be stacked?
A shopper on Dec 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Stacking such huge kennels doesn't seem safe to me. You're obviously buying this for a very large animal, and it seems to me that such an animal could easily rock the kennel and risk having it fall unless you have some very sturdy support system to insure that the kennel wouldn't move. As I only have one sky kennel, the thought of stacking such a kennel had not ever occurred to me. As far as the kennel being sturdy enough, I suppose that these kennels would hold up if you were to do so. They are very hard, tough, and rigid, and certainly seem heavy enough to hold the weight. I hope that this has been helpful.
What color are these crate? Would like to match some I currently own which are a light almond/putty color.. These look darker in the picture.
A shopper on Jan 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The crates are a light gray, so they will likely not match the ones you currently own. They are, however, very well made and easily storable.
I need crates for my dogs. They weigh 15lbs and 17 lbs. Heights are 11-inch and 13-inch. Lengths are 21-inches and 23-inches. Which size should I choose? Is this airline approved?
Lucia V on Oct 9, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I bought this crate for my LG German Shepherd. I needed the height. Your dogs appear to be small. It would be very roomy for 2 small dogs. There are only a few Airlines that have pressure controlled cabins for pet safety. Be sure to research Airline requirements. Some will take small dogs in the cabin with the owners depending on size of dog.. But yes, mine is Airline approved if you want a lg roomy crate.
i have a 90 lb american staffy wondering if the xlarge is big enough?
jane m on Jan 28, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Please use the following guidelines to determine the best size crate for your dog.

Length: Measure the length of your dog from nose to tail. When measuring the tail, be sure to add approximately 2-4 inches to the overall length, depending on the size of your dog. Height: To determine the height of the crate you will need, measure your dog from the top of the head to the ground.
does this carrier have screws?
A shopper on Jul 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes it comes with screws. However, if you plan on using this Carrier to transport your pet via airplane( most airlines have a web site with the requirements of pet carriers) you may need to purchase the required screws.
Are they stackable? I'd need 4 and would have to stack 2 on top of 2.in the back of my van.
A shopper on Sep 23, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I've purchased a lot of these crates for work. To my knowledge, they are not meant to be stacked. I wouldn't do it unless you have a way of tying them down securely. Animals are typically already nervous about travel, but more so if their crate moves around or shifts.
Is the size xlarge okay for a labrador?
It's for an over sea flight is this carrier iata prove?
A shopper on May 27, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I have a 70lb male boxer who is tall/leggy (not stout) and the XL was just fine for him. In fact he preferred being in the L size for my 50lb female boxer! But for the flight from LA to Tokyo on ANA (in Nov 2013) he went in the XL carrier and everything went perfectly. EXCEPT make sure the airline people don't ever put the crate(s) on one of those normal luggage carts - when the dog stands up/moves around in the carrier it can easily go off balance and it toppled off once with him in it! He was fine, but I was devastated! It's stressful enough without that happening so get there early and have them find a flatbed cart or two employees to carry them to the cart that takes them to the plane. Also, I don't recommend traveling alone with big dogs, I was by myself with both dogs and really messed up my back lifting them. I'll never let my husband forget it! ;) Best of luck, hope this helps.
What kind of Kemal are with allowed in airplane with size requirements?
Shamookii on Sep 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Sky kennels are always allowed for shipping purposes on any airline, for carry on it has to be a soft sided carrier that can stow under the seat in front of you. To get the dimensions allowed you have to contact the airline as airlines each have their own regulations depending on the type/size of aircraft.... Usually it is not more than 10 or 12 inches tall & I always order my soft sided carriers from Chewy as they have the best price & its here in 2 to 3 days.
what are the recommended maximum sizes of pets for the small kennel and also the medium kennel? Thank you
A shopper on Apr 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I went to the airline website to check the requirements. It gave how to measure your pet and then what size crate was appropriate. I would guess it is similar for all airlines. I flew United. If you go to their website and look at the "Petsafe" link in the information on travel with animals, you can click the links to get to the page showing how to measure your pet and then calculate the correct crate size.
I looked through the site and couldn't find the metal hardware needed for airline travel. Has anyone found it online?
A shopper on Mar 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I purchased this kennel and it comes with metal bolts and plastic nuts. This provided hardware works well to hold the two halves together as designed. I think the provided hardware is designed to prevent over-tightening which would crack or break the kennel shells. If you use all metal hardware and over-tighten you will break the kennel shell. I shipped a 85 lb lab in this kennel on United and they had no issue with accepting it with the provided manufacturer hardware.
Is the small ok to carry on plane?
Cristina Z on Feb 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hi!
I wouldn't use it as a carry-on. It's "small" but still a bit larger than a typical carrier you'd get at a pet store so it's a bit bulky. Also, it depends on how large your animal is. My cat is fairly chubby but short so she fits in it but could fit in a smaller one too.
I hope that helps!

A shopper on Jan 29, 2017

Is giant the largest kennel size ?
E B on Sep 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I didn't buy giant so I can't say but I'm guessing the sizes go from smallest to largest and giant is the last size listed.
Alaska Air requires metal bolts & nuts, not plastic. Can these be adapted?
A shopper on Aug 22, 2016

is this type of kennel can fit to my 17 lbs. shtizu poddle dog flying overseas?
tom m on Jun 19, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I used this kennel to transport our 10 week old Airedale on a 2 hour flight from Seattle to Los Angeles. Worked well, but in order to fly we needed to purchase the metal hardware kit. Check with your airline to see their regulations.
will this cage fit a 50lbs. dog?
A shopper on May 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes it will. Our dog is only 30 lbs but our neighbor has a 75lb yellow lab that sleeps in it at night as well a transportation kennel when traveling.
