I have one and want to expand it for my cat in order to double the size for her. She is not good about using the litter box when I am gone for extended periods but when using this as a kennel she will always use the litter box. I have the wire mesh top for it. It has worked out extremely well even at the single size of 4'x4'x30" size.

how big of a diameter is this?
A shopper on Aug 13, 2014
BEST ANSWER: With 8 panels, when you set up in a rectangle it is 48 inches wide by 48 inches deep.
what is size of expanded run? 4' x 4' ???
glenn Jacoby L on Jun 26, 2014
BEST ANSWER: this says the midwest pet exercise pen is 4 foot tall x 2 foot wide so i would guess that is the size of the expansion.
How big Are the holes in the panels I'm using this for bunnies???
Austin W on Sep 2, 2013
BEST ANSWER: There is 1 1/2" between the bars. I use them for bunnies too! Mine are Flemish Giants. The spacing is fine for adults, but babies can squeeze in between. We also use these for our adult guinea pigs and it works perfectly.

I bought the 48"H pen thinking that the rabbits would be able to hop out. They actually don't even attempt to. I wish I had gotten a 24" or 36" because the higher pen is a little cumbersome and hard to reach into or step over.

Good luck!
How many panels do you get??
c a on Aug 26, 2013
BEST ANSWER: You get 8 panels which are already connected to each other in one long piece. There is no door, but you can easily make one of the panels swing in or out like a door. it comes with spring-loaded lobster-type fasteners to hook the two free ends together.
What do the bottom of the panels look like? I'm planning on using this indoors on a hardwood floor and don't want the pen to scratch the floor.

Erin A on Nov 16, 2013
BEST ANSWER: The horizontal lower bar rests on the floor and this is smooth - however, the vertical crossbars extend down to barely touch the floor as well. Their ends are smooth to touch along the bottom but their edges are not filed down, so i guess they could scratch the floor if dragged across it at a slight angle. We haven't had any scratches but our floor is wood laminate.
What size is good for a small rabbit?
asia c on Jan 19, 2014
BEST ANSWER: This would work for a rabbit, but I am not sure if the coating on it is good, because they chew? You may want to look at this size without the coating if you can?
can 2 sets be connected ?
A shopper on Jun 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes they can easily be connected with each other by another set of connectors....anything will work, snaps,
a cord, twine, ribbon. I raise toy dogs and love the move ability of this unit.....especially when we visit the nursing homes. easily cleaned easy portability and safe.
is this suitable for very small dogs weighing less then 8 lbs?
janice o on Jul 28, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I think the pen would be fine for a small dog. I use mine as a portable play pen for my little hens who weigh between 4 to 5 pounds. They can squeeze their heads through the holes, but their is no extra room. Your dog's head is larger, so I don't think there would be any danger. BTW, I really like mine.
Is the Ecoat a rubber coating?
Jeanna B on Mar 15, 2014
BEST ANSWER: In short, electrocoating (also called e-coating or electrodeposition) is the process by which a metallic workpiece is submerged in a paint / water bath and electricity is used to deposit paint onto the workpiece. The electrodeposition process is the most automatic, controllable, and efficient method for applying a corrosion inhibiting primer to a metallic workpiece.

I have owned many of these.. I started out with the gold ones but found the black coated ones had less wear and tear after years of use. These pens are very handy for many occasions. We raise Italian Mastiffs, we use them as puppy pens or just to block off areas we don't want dogs to go. Take them on car trips so we always have a secure area when we are out of the car...out in grass areas for potty breaks. I highly recommend this product!
Does it have a gate ?
Martha F on Mar 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It does not have a gate, but on the side that connects, you could unhook it to open that side, sort of like a gate.
if u have 2 what shape can u put the pen in ?
A shopper on Feb 26, 2015
BEST ANSWER: If you put two together you have multiple ways you can use it. If you make a configuration with more than about 4 panels in a straight line you should be reinforce the panels by staking or by securing the corners for stability. A continuous circle makes the strongest configuration.
does this pen have a door in it and can you then extend it by using several pens to form a large circle for two active puppies?
A shopper on Jul 3, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The "door" is simply the end panel - it's hinged at the edge (as are all the panels) and you can latch it to the other end of the set - there's no door built into one of the panels. It would be easy to extend into a larger pen by joining two or more sets of panels. I've used black nylon zip ties to join panels together. After trimming the ends of the ties they're almost invisible.

Note: I've separated the panels by removing the metal hinges (not as easily done) and reconfigured them into a large cat cage with roof for a cat by using several sets of these panels. You can really make almost any type of structure out of them with a little creativity and nylon zip ties.
Will this pen work inside the house without the stakes?
Allison D on Mar 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I used it without the stakes indoors. My puppy never tried to push his way out, so it worked for me. Now I use it across a a double wide archway wall. I also used numerous panels outdoors to keep my pup within the iron fenced in yard. This keeps him from slipping through the spaces between the fence bars. I am very pleased with the versatility of this enclosure
Can small rabbits get through the bars?
A shopper on Aug 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: If you are talking baby rabbits ,probably, as their body is very flexible. a little older probably not. I raise toy dogs.
and if needed, I purchase plastic gutter guards and set the pen in a square and the 4 inch high guards work
great, when zip tied to the bottom height of the pen, and they are washable.
Can you expand size with additional panels?
A shopper on Jun 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: you can make the circumference larger with more panels. i don't think it is possible to stack them to make them higher.
How tall should I get for my 30 pound puggle and my 23 pound jr lab mix full grown . Can I put 3 together, I only want to put them in it when I'm in the yard with them so they can play?
Linda N on Mar 31, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I have a 75lb Weimaraner and a 10lb Yorkie I put in mine but I only have two hook together and I purchased the 30H X 24W. Hope this helps out!!!
Gate at end or center can it be moved?
A shopper on Oct 31, 2017
BEST ANSWER: There is no actual gate. You just open the fence at the end - where the ends come together.
My dog is small but jumps high and need to keep enclosed outside. What height do you suggest?
A shopper on Apr 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Without knowing your dog its hard to give you an exact size, but I would say the higher you can get it the better. Try seeing if you can have your dog jump for a treat next to a door or the fridge even and get an idea of max height he/she can jump.
I am trying to puppy proof my driveway. I need a metal "fence" that is light weight, easy to set up and will handle a little rain or light snow while in use. It needs to be able to stand up on concrete. How long is each play pen. I assume I can string a few together across my 134 inch driveway. I have a wood play pen I am using this way, but it will not hold up to the elements. Can I use the playpen this way?
Kim B on Sep 25, 2016
We have 2 of these hooked together, they come with the hooks. They are very light weight but as far as the weather is concerned I'm not sure. We only use ours when we go camping then they stay in the RV until the next trip. They are acrylic coated so my guess would be that they would hold up pretty well. My only concern would be them falling over if you have any wind. I'm not sure if you are putting them straight across your drive way or if they will be in a circle. If in a circle you shouldn't have any problems. Hope this helps. We love ours.
Would one of these pens (24x30) be large enough for 2 bunnies? We are looking for a safe play yard for them to use indoors. Thank you!
Laura C on Mar 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Imagine( or measure out) a 4ft x 4 ft area. Each panel is 2 ft wide and there are 8 panels. It works out fine for a Shih Tzu dog with supervision.
It is feasible to cover the top of this cage so a cat can stay in it outside safely. If so,with what?
A shopper on Sep 20, 2014
BEST ANSWER: If can be covered in one of two ways. When set up in rectangular form (48 wide by 48 deep) you can top with two extra 24 X 48 panels, held in place with metal clips. This is probably the most secure way. With a cat you would need to put clips fairly frequently to leave no spots where they could squeeze through. The send way is to top with a tarp, also secured well to eliminate holes where a cat could climb up and squeeze through.
My puppy will be eight lbs when fully grown. What size pen should I purchase? She will be using the pen only until potty trained. Thank you.
Paula L on Mar 11, 2014
BEST ANSWER: 24" high x 24"wide (each panel) You buy the exercise pens more for the size and height of the dog, not so much by weight. You will want to use this pen for years. It is not only for potty training. When you travel or at home it is a safe place the dog. Example: you have a lot of company and you don't want someone to accidently let the dog out the front door. It is easy to set up and put down, on a trip your dog could run and play instead of being on a leash. etc. etc.
What is the gauge of the metal on these exercise pens? I need something that will contain a standard collie.
Spenser H on Feb 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I believe it is 14 or 16 gauge. It isn't very stout if you have a dog that likes to stand on their back legs and paw at the fence. I use it to keep my 3 Aussies contained when we are camping and it works out perfect for that but I wouldn't leave them in there unattended for a long period of time.
Wondering if this will go around a 5' diameter Christmas tree - to keep the dog out? :)
Shelly C on Nov 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: That is a very good idea. 48 inches tall is a bit high i would think, but yes, it would go around the tree.
What is the weight of the product?
gabriela b on Sep 14, 2016
Is there a mat that fits the bottom of this one?
A shopper on Aug 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have never found any mats for exercise pens in 45 years. This exercise pen can be set up in numerous shapes. Depending on why or where you wanted a mat or what breed you had; there are many solutions (such as a tarp etc.)
where is this manufactured?
C C on Sep 2, 2015
how long does it take to get to destination?
A shopper on Apr 7, 2015
BEST ANSWER: This item ships from our Pennsylvania warehouse. It depends on which shipping method you choose and where you are from.
