I have rats.

Was looking for a cage for my first real pet. Looking forward to it
Tri N on Apr 14, 2017
Price and Superior Quality ! ( I also run a Chinchilla Rescue in Texas). Far Superior to other brands of cages, the wide "swing open" doors makes it easy to access your "Chin Kid(s) !! Well made, and even is far better than Critter Nation cages due to "bars" being much more sturdy and very unlikely to break.

how wide are the wires spread? We have cats, and don't want their paws to fit through
Stephanie H on Jul 1, 2016
Best Answer: We actually had to return this model to get the "Critter Nation"--which is the same except the vertical wires are closer together. We have 2 rats and they were able to get out of the Ferret Nation cage! My guess is a cat's paw could fit in enough to swipe and cause some potential damage! **the gap between wires is even greater at the cage "seams," so this caused us greater issues with the extra width.

Loved both cages and well worth the money however! Very sturdy and functional!

How many inches from the base shelf/ storage part to actual bottom of cage?
Nicky R on Apr 25, 2016
Best Answer: Hey Nicky,

So from the base shelf till the storage part is about 10-12 inches. It's enough space to put a plastic container for storage. If you would like I made a YouTube channel of my ferret in which you can see my cage. I would be uploading more videos about ferrets. The channel is Jade The Ferret and she has an Instagram as well jade_The_Ferret... Please like, subscribe, comment any questions and follow. I would love to help. Thanks!

Is there anyway to lower the platform?
A shopper on Apr 4, 2016
Best Answer: If you are speaking of the bottom pan, no I don't believe you can lower it. You can adjust the height of the shelf though.

Ferret Nation Habitat Model 183 Add-On Unit
Best Answer: I found this info on another retailer's website:
Optional add-on cage (model 183) creates a double-level cage to grow, should you have more than one ferret. May also be used as a quarantine cage when you add more ferrets.
We have model 182 and 183 and it provides our four ferrets a ton of room to sleep, eat, and use the potty. These cages work very well for us and are very easy to clean. However, I would highly recommend using the high back rectangular litter boxes on several levels.

does the pan slide out from bottom to clean?
A shopper on Sep 3, 2014
Best Answer: Yes, it does slide out. We find it easier to open the doors to clean the cage daily, and then about once a week we pull the tray all the way out, and take it outside for a deep cleaning :)

Can these be expanded side by side?
Paula F on Feb 8, 2016
Best Answer: I have had these cages for years and from what I know, they cannot be expanded from side to side unless you makeshift it on your own. I have had them stacked and shared as they can enter into either cage or you can block off olif you need to separate. Hope that helps.

Could you use it for a sugar glider?
A shopper on Jun 17, 2016
Best Answer: Had a sugar glider years ago but used a bigger bird cage than this cage for ferrets. I would research first what size cage is recommended for gliders before you make a purchase.

Anyone use this cage for a bunny?
Kristine M on Feb 20, 2017
Best Answer: This cage is not recommended for a rabbit as they could fall from one of the levels and become injured. The shelves are also not designed to support the weight of a rabbit.
