Why did you choose this?
what will delivery date be?
Best Answer: It depends on what method of shipping you pick. Economy is 7-10 business days, Ground is 2-6. Then there is 3 day, 2 day, and 1 day. Please note that expedited shipping needs to be placed by 2pm EST. Hope this helps.
Hi i was wondering what the packing size and weight of the double critter nation is? all i can find is the assemble size and weight
Best Answer: I ordered one last week and the FedEx shipping notice lists 110 lbs / 49.9 kgs.
Is this the two level cage and why is it 180$?
Best Answer: This a very well made cage. It has two full floors and two shelves for lots of room. As a fancy rat breeder, I owned a few of these cages. They are powder coated, not just painted, so the finish holds up a little better than regular painted wire cages. As you can see, the Double Critter Nation is a large cage. It is one of the best cages out there for small animals such as rats and chinchillas. However, if you animals are not litter trained, you may need to order special pans for the cage to hold bedding, as the trays they come with are too shallow to hold wood shavings or paper based bedding. Depending on what animal(s) you are shopping for, this cage may be the best one you ever buy. It's full sized doors, top and bottom, make it easy to clean. And the top and bottom units can be used separately, by folding up the center ramp and locking it, so it's essentially two cages in one.
Do this cage come with the bottom floor pan? If not does it come with any accessories? Thanks
Best Answer: The cage comes with two floor pans (one for each level). In addition, it comes with two "shelves" each with its own pan. These shelves
can be placed at three different heights - on either the left or right side of the cage. The shelf provides a loft area for playing or resting. The cage also comes with wire ramps that can be used between shelf area and main floor and/or to provide access between the two main levels of the cage. There's also a fleece like cover for the ramps so that pet's feet don't get caught.
Does the cage come with the stand?
Best Answer: Yes it does come with a stand as long as you order the single Critter Nation or the Double. If you order the "add on" unit, it does not come with a stand.
Can this go outside for housing 2 small rabbits?
Best Answer: It is well built and powder coated, but I don't think it would stand up to the outdoor elements. It's much better to house rabbits indoors, for their health and safety. This cage is ideal for limited spaces. I use it to house two pairs of rabbits - one pair on each level. Mind you, they also have ample time each day to roam free.
That being said, I think this cage would be ideal for two bunnies. Is it quite spacious, allowing plenty of room for litterbox, lounging, toys and food. Wheels allow it to be moved easily, and the wheels can be locked to keep the cage in place. It's also quite an attractive cage that would blend in with your decor. You have the ability to keep them separated (a must if they are not spayed/neutered or bonded. Just keep each one on their own level. When they are ready to be together you can activate the ramp between level. Be sure to use the ramp covers provided so that their feet don't get caught in the bars of the ramp. The included "shelves" are a favorite lounging spot.
Can the doors go on the bottom level?
Best Answer: Both top and bottom levels are same. They both have wide opening doors. The upper level has an entry opening to travel to lower level. And of course it has a bottom shelf for storage. We love it!
does this model cage have actual thick plastic trays or thin piece of plastic?
Best Answer: The trays are pretty substantial not thin like bird cage trays. They're also really easy to remove from the cage to clean. My only complaint is their texture makes them a little more difficult to clean. But I would definitely recommend this cage it's one of the best I've seen out there.
Does this work for hamsters? Or is it too big? I have Syrian hamsters.
Best Answer: In my opinion, it's too big and potentially dangerous if the hamsters fall off the ramps. It could be used as two separate cages, but I think it would be wasted vertical space. FWIW, I've always kept hamsters in tanks.
How big is the opening between levels?
Best Answer: There isn't space between levels so much as a shelf that separates the level. That shelf that serves as the upper level is positioned where the upper and lower level door openings are. The outer sides are one length and the front has the doors. It's perfect and very much worth the price.
Can I upgrade to the deeper pans for an up charge? I really don't want to have extra pans laying around...
Best Answer: Unfortunately, I do not think the deeper pants would actually fit in the groove slots they have for the pans that come with it. When I pull/lift up my pants, I notice THOSE hardly fit in the grooves; but, fit they do so no problems with the standard ones.
Can you separate the top section from the bottom?
Best Answer: Yes it can be separated to use as 2 different cages. The ramp going to the bottom of the cage can be lifted up and locked in place separating the 2. There's a little hook in there that can be missed. I have 5 rats that I separated 3 on top and 2 on the bottom. The rats didn't get along, but the problem I had was the rats on the bottom would bite the feet of the rats on top through the cage. So just have to cover the ramp with something so their feet wouldn't be open. Something to think about I guess. But yes you can separate them.
are there guards for the sides to keep the mess contained?
Best Answer: Yes. They work well enough but start to rust over (a fairly long) period of time. You definitely need *something* to help if you are using aspen or carefresh or any other type of bedding. A lot of folks use towels or fabric on the floors instead and in that case you wouldn't need the barriers. Alternately, you could get bass pans instead. They fit perfectly and last longer and are easier to clean. All that being said, I used those edge things for years and they worked well for me against very industrious, busy girls and their need to push aspen everywhere.
Would this be a good option for an adult rabbit?
Best Answer: The cage is definitely higher than it is wide. I'm not familiar with rabbits as pets, but if you don't think they'd safely use the ramps to go up to a different level, I think you could probably find something different that would work better. Also, if rabbits like to have floor space in their habitat, again, I would look at different options. I bought this for my sugar gliders and it's great for them.
What tools are needed to assemble?
Best Answer: I used a rubber mallet . Really, anything hard enough to knock the pieces together, but soft that absorbs shock so it doesn't compromise or damage the cage pieces.
The last time I took apart the cage (about a month and a half ago), I didn't have to use any tools and just used my body weight to settle the pieces together. It's a very sturdy cage and the one year warranty is really nice. My rats have so much space and enjoy climbing the cage walls. I've caught some even doing 'pull-ups' ;) It's so cute!
Does it come with any fleece covers too the ramps?
Best Answer: Yes it does.
Is the bottom tray solid and not mesh with a removable tray?
Best Answer: There are plastic trays that are removable. Under the trays is a metal wire grid (like the sides).
You can have metal trays made but it's not cheap (unless you know a fabricator... powder coat recommended). My plastic trays have lasted between 2 and 3 years so far (I have 3 of these cages for rats). If your critters chew everything don't expect much life out of them.
Is this gage the 161 model?
Best Answer: This cage has 1/2" spaces, which makes it nice for smaller critters, like Sugar Gliders. I do believe it is the 161 double cage. The big doors are great, however I recommend getting the cover for it to keep any mess down and the trays have to be cleaned offend. For my gliders, I now use a cage that has a tray under the bottom, so my little friends are not walking through their droppings. If you use any bedding on the trays, like wood chips, you want to put sides on it to keep them in the cage. Good luck!
How do you clean cage?
Best Answer: My plan is to just scoop out old bedding (or shavings), throw away, wipe all flat surfaces with diluted antibacterial spray, let it dry completely, replace bedding. We just got our rat babies today so we'll see how it goes. The cool thing about this cage is you can keep rats in top section while you clean bottom section and vice versa!!
It says both floors are plastic. Are the shelves? Are there metal replacements?
Best Answer: The base flooring and upper small shelves are heavy duty plastic that sit on the wire racking. I'm not sure of any metal replacements however we made fleece "pillow case " covers that can be washed. Our chinchilla doesn't bother chewing on the plastic and loves the cover.
Do the bars run up and down or side to side?
Best Answer: They do both, but the majority of them run horizontal. The front section (doors) for example only have four vertical bars. I hope that helps.
Is there an opening on the top of cage? If you wanted to ad a parrot like play pen so rats could climb up (with supervision) and have additional play items on the top? Can you add a third layer if you are buying the double?
Best Answer: There's not an opening at the top, but I guarantee your rats will figure out how to get up there to play if you leave the doors open! Also, you can add a third single unit on top, but I'm not sure how it works. I assume you would have to take out the bottom or cut the bars where the opening would be. I know there are lines on the plastic pans for where you would cut that to add another ladder, so I know it's doable!
How many ramps are there?
Best Answer: The cage comes with 3 ramps two for the shelves/platforms and one to go between the top and bottom part of the cage. You can always purchase extra ramps. I did so my rats could enter/leave the bottom cage at will.
can the middle shelf (full length) be removed?
Best Answer: To clarify my previous response, you might be able to leave the divider grid out during assembly, but I would definitely be concerned about the structural integrity of the unit. I don't think it would be very sturdy without it. The trays can be taken in and out for cleaning, but the grid between the two sections are part of the assembly.
Does this come with a wire tray for droppings will fall to the plastic tray?
Best Answer: No it does not. Just the plastic trays on top of the metal..I do have to say though that they are not hard to clean. We have two cages with two chinchillas per cage and I just vacuum the trays every other day and wipe clean with a cage cleaner.
Would this be good for a ferret?
Best Answer: Yes it would work fine for a ferret. They actually make a ferret Nation version and the difference is the bar spacing is wider apart and goes the opposite direction. These bars are closer together so that it will also work for smaller animals like sugar gliders.
it's is Midwest Critter Nation Double ?
Best Answer: Yes. Mine says "Midwest" and "Critter Nation" on it and it is a double. Purchased mine for 2 prairie dogs and have been extremely pleased with it. The double doors on each story open all of the way out which is a huge benefit for cleaning purposes.
What are the box (package) dimensions please?
Best Answer: The box that will arrive to your house will measure 36in long by 63in high and 24in deep
Is this cage ideal for Guinea pigs?
Best Answer: This can be used for Guinea Pigs but it is not the best option. Guinea Pigs needs more horizontal space then vertical. They aren't the best climbers and I would be afraid of them tripping while using the ramps. Any kind of fall for a rodent can be dangerous due to their small bones. Personally i would suggest the cage listed below. There are also amazing DIY guinea pig cages that you can find online.
Is this cage good for 2 guinea pigs?
Best Answer: I don't think so. There would be enough room, but guinea pigs do not go up and down stairs easily. When I had two guinea pigs, I put them in two cages side-by-side so could see each other, talk, smell, etc. and they loved it. I use this cage for chinchillas, and it works very well.
what animal-in picture-are they looking at??
Best Answer: Those are rats. Rats and chinchillas are what usually is kept in these cages though Ive known everything from squirrels to prairie dogs
Hi, would you recommend this cage for a Holland lop rabbit? Thanks!
Best Answer: A resounding NO! This is a great cage, but not for rabbits! Rabbits, in general need horizontal floor space, vertical climbing space. My two rabbits don't live in cages. They live in the house, like cats not confined. Please reconsider keeping your rabbit in a cage. It needs room to hop and run. Minimum cage size for rabbits should allow them to hop forward in a straight line without running into anything for six hops.
Does this work with guinea pigs?
Best Answer: The ramps are a little steep and the levels are a bit high. I would be afraid of them falling and getting hurt. You might be able to modify it?
what is the size of the cage?
Best Answer: 36inches wide,24 inches tall 24 inches deep each unit
Can I use this for 3 chinchillas?
Best Answer: Sure, but you can't use the plastic shelves. You can buy or make wood shelves. Here are some pics of mine (piece the link together since this review won't allow links): https: // www dot dropbox dot com/sh/i120ze02jg36pwz/AABdT3ox4g8DYb617nWmteoWa?dl=0
I also bought deep, stainless pans for mine to keep the mess down (bought from Bass).
That Chins and Hedges forum has great sources for stuff for these cages. I had a lady on there make all the fleece liners and other fleece stuff.
Does this cage come with the side shelf pan?
Best Answer: Yes - one for each level; they are supported by a metal bracket and very solid even though they only attach to the side wall, not the front or back.
Hi. What is the depth of the cage? Thanks.
Best Answer: The depth of the tray is 23 inches.
what critters are they for?
Best Answer: The bar spacing is a 1/2" . This can hold most small pets but I would caution against mice, hamsters and dwarf hamsters.
How big is the cage?
Best Answer: Very large! It's over 5ft tall and I think about 3ft wide. My rats love it.
Can I only assemble the first unit for now? Or does it have to be both units?
Best Answer: You can assemble only the bottom but I would have it attached to the coasters with the shelf. The second level can be attached later if you'd like but either way the cage will be still be as stable.
Does this come with and shelves?
Best Answer: Yes, it comes with shelves, ramps and plastic
Shallow pans for both levels do critters won't
be walking on the bars. Fabulous cage-I have
three of them.
How many square feet of floor space does the cage contain? (Including lofts)
Best Answer: The two main levels are 24" x 36" and each of the smaller levels is 18" x 24". Each main level is 6 square feet. Each smaller level is 3 square feet. Total of 18 square feet. Twelve male rats or fourteen female rates can occupy this cage in comfort. Mine is furnished with a pair of Wodent Wheels, a wooden hidey hole, and a changing variety of hammocks or climbing ropes or pods.
Is the ferret cage pan the same size as the pan in the small animal critter nation cage? I only see a replacement pan for the ferret cage.
Best Answer: yes same thing it will fit
I want to buy another unit for my double unit Critter Nation cage I was wondering if the add on unit looks identical to the unit Critter Nation same size?
Best Answer: you would simply purchase the Critter Nation Add On -- it only adds on one floor to a Doucle Critter Nation, meaning it would be a "Triple Critter Nation". It will add on just a third tier -- an aditional 3' x 2' x 2' of space.
is this product good for gerbils?
Best Answer: I've never had a gerbil but I"ve had a lot of different hamsters. I think they are about the same size if not smaller than the bigger hamsters and I'd say even the bigger hamsters would have a very hard time going up the ramps due to the 3 inches that hover above the ramp's and their most elevated points. I'd say a guinea pig sized rodent (or chinchilla, which what I bought it for) would be the best bet. Oh, or ferrets!
Will this pen work for a rabbit?
Best Answer: We have 2 rabbits in ours. We've had ours for several years now. We actually separated the top and bottom by turning the middle floor mat the opposite direction. Our bunnies don't like the side shelves, so we just took them out!
