Calories Analysis

This food contains 3,800 kcal per kilogram or 450 kcal per cup ME (metabolizable energy) on an as fed basis (calculated).

Transitioning to Wellness: It is important to slowly transition your PUPPY from his/her current diet as it takes a few days for the body to adapt to the new nutrient levels. To transition, gradually mix in the new food over a 5-7 day period, increasing the amount of Wellness each day, so that you are feeding 100% Wellness by day 7.

How to Feed Your Puppy - As puppies grow up they need to learn when, where and how to eat. Depending on age, puppies need to be fed at the same time and in the same place 2-4 times per day. Food should be removed after 20 minutes, if not eaten. In the beginning, puppy's food can be moistened with a little warm water.

Determining Feeding Portions: Looking at the chart below, divide the total cups per day by the total number of times you feed your puppy per day to determine the portion size for each meal. Keep a clean bowl of fresh water available at all times. Wellness believes in feeding dry and wet food in combination whenever possible to help increase the level of water in your puppy's diet.

Nutrition is only one part of the equation! Be sure to give your puppy plenty of love, plenty of exercise and see your veterinarian regularly to help ensure total wellness.

Recommended Feeding Portions (Based on a standard 8 oz dry measuring cup)

Great Food! , 4/28/2013

KIRSTIE BECK from Utah

I used this for my puppies, and their coats, teeth, and gums are in amazing shape! My foster pom gained almost 2 lbs. And was healthy when she found her new home. This food is very high in protein, so make sure you slowly induce this to your puppy, as it can make his/her stomach upset.

would not recommend, 3/20/2011

kate from los angeles, ca

This food did not agree with my puppy at all. He was perfectly healthy before we started feeding him the Wellness Puppy blend and almost immediately after we introduced this to his diet his stool became yellow & runny, he got VERY bad gas and (although I can't prove this is related) he got 2 very bad ear infections. I wouldn't have ever associated the infections with the food had I not read other reviews from people who said the same thing.. so I thought I should mention it. We gave him a few months to get used to the food before deciding to switch to something else, but once we finally made the switch (to Lotus) his stool immediately improved, as did his gas.

Doxie approved, 2/17/2010

Mary from

When I got my dachshund puppy she was on Iam's then I switched her to Science Diet but noticed a large increase in shedding and dandruff ( a handful of hair brushed off every other day). Someone suggested Royal Canine and I thought that was a good choice as later down the road she could have the food made for my little Teckel. BUT she began to scratch at her face and was licking her feet like CRAZY. I did lots of research and decided on Wellness. Her coat is shiny and no more itching. If I were to give words of support to anyone looking for a great food, is know that for every good review you find on a brand you probably are going to someone who does not like it. I chose Wellness as it is in the "upper" level of dry foods and it had the least amount of negatives and was not on the 2007 food recall. Try a food for around a month and if it doesn't work for your dog then it doesn't work and go on to the next brand. My Doxie is a happy WELLNESS Girl.

Ball of Energy, 3/3/2009

Matt from Des Moines, IA

We started our Sheltie on Eukanuba that the breader gave us, She was doing well on that but thought if i was going to spend that kind of money on dog food, was there anything better for her for around the same price. Discovered Wellness and found her to have a lot more energy and more alert shortly after we started switching over. She did have some loose stools at first as did a previous reviewer but after a little research found that because this is a high qualty food (no fillers and stool hardeners) that the loose stools were from over feeding. As soon as we backed off the amount of food she was given everything returned to normal. Everyone at puppy school rave about how soft her coat is and how much energy and personalty she has.

Neil from Ephrata,PA

I have 6 months old Boxer. I got him when he was 10 weeks old and I gave him Purina Pro Plan and he is not really like that much so I switch to Euknubaku for couple of months and he was very fussy with the flavors until I went to the local pet shop and ask them what is the best dry food for dog and puppy and she gav me the sample of Wellness just for a puppy. I gave him as treat and he stood up and straight to me and beg for more! what a excellcent product! HE LOVE IT! I RECOMMEN YOU ALL TO TRY THIS product!

Highly recommended - A+++, 8/23/2008

Robert Maslowski from Duluth, MN

I have tried IAMS; Science Diet; and Purina since getting my Vizsla puppy in January, 2008. Each of the above brands resulted in problems ranging from dandruff and loose stool to dull coat large stool volume. Changing to Wellness Puppy food at the suggestion of the local kennel owner provided immediate improvement and elimination of all of the previous problems. Simply put: In my opinion, there is no better puppy food than Wellness for my high-energy, highly-active and absolutely BEAUTIFUL Vizlsa. I won't feed her anything else for the above-listed reasons and also for the following facts: The first two ingredients of this food are named meat products. The presence of a meat meal ingredient high on the list gives me confidence that there is an adequate amount of meat in the food. There is a further meat meal ingredient 5th on the ingredient list, which, still being ahead of the fat content adds to my confidence in the meat content of the food. The major grains in the food are oatmeal, barley and rice. Oatmeal is a good quality source of carbohydrates and B vitamins. Barley is also a good quality grain and carbohydrate source. Rice is a low-allergenic grain that is a good source of carbohydrates and additional protein. Rice bran , however, is a grain fragment and filler. Tomato pomace is also primarily filler, but a minor ingredient in the food. Canola oil is a source of linoleic acid, but not all manufacturers agree that this is a high quality ingredient. Flaxseed is a good quality source of Omega 6 and Omega 3 essential fatty acids. The inclusion of a range of fruits and vegetables is appreciated, as are the probiotics.

HAPPY PUPPY, 7/7/2008

Marilyn from levittown, ny

We started our new Yorkie on the same food as the pet shop was using nothing of very high quality but when I heard about Wellness I decided to give it a try. He was a little more that 3 months old when we took him home, and weve had him for 3 weeks now. He is doing so well on wellness. Good digestion, great skin and coat, plenty of energy, poops about 3 times a day and all firm. We dont have a very regular schedule, so I leave his food out I know, my bad! and hes already doing so great with housebreaking uses the doggy door or the wee wee pads about 95 of the time. I think a good healthy diet has kept him alert and thinking and learning quickly, even though we spoil the heck out of him! Thanks Wellness!

Im Not Sure Yet, 10/24/2007

Ray D from NE Conn

I am not sure on this food yet. I know it gets great reviews and is well recommended, but my bulldog puppy doesnt seem to like it much. I would expect her to eat the food quickly and right away, and neither happens. Im still giving it some time though.

GREAT!, 5/30/2007

Bryan from Phoenix, AZ

I have a basenji named Kobe, he was having an issue with dandruf. My vet recommended Royal Canine puppy food for medium breeds, he loved the taste however he was still flaking. I read about Wellness online and tried it. I mix wet and dry, or I just wet the dry food, his coat is now amazing and very radiant, plus he loves the flavor. I highly recommend Wellness products.

Mini Doxie Likes It, 4/1/2007

Jennifer from Ottawa, ON

My first bag of pet food was Iams. After some research online I knew I needed to find something else. Wellness came highly recommended by my local Pet Food Coop. It has excellent ingredients. I rushed home so excited for my puppy to try his new food. He was far from thrilled. It took a couple of days now he loves it !!! I can use the kibble for training he loves it so much. And well now with the pet food recall I feel even better about my choice to feed my puppy Wellness. It is definately worth the extra price !!!

Not so good reaction, 3/13/2007

Karen from Florida

I fed my new puppy Wellness only for her to have the runs for 2 weeks. I even took her to the vet and they could find nothing wrong. I fed her Iams for one day and her stool went back to normal. I tried Wellness again, and she went back to the runs. Im in the process of looking for a different quality dog food. Glad to know Wellness has a guarantee.

My Soft-Coated Wheaten Loves It!, 1/8/2007

Stuart from New Jersey

We switched to Wellness Puppy from Eukenuba and the only problem we have is that our puppy loves it so much she eats too fast. Were very careful about foods because she is allergic to beef and wasnt eating the Eukenuba very well but she has been great on this. Well worth the extra price.
