i have a lab an extreme puller. walks were hurtful and never fun. i used to have a harness, but she didnt mind it. we just bought this and miracles in minutes! she walked right buy my side the whole time on our walk but i have to say if you dont know anyone to help you fit it right on your dog, watch the video at least twice or watch it and follow it with your gentle leader and dog

Dissappointed

I have tried every type of collar out there including this one. I understand the concept of the collar, but my Rottweiler absolutely refuses to wear it. She freaks out and manages to get out of it. When she did wear it at the beginning, I could see how the potential success of this collar would work, but not in my case. The quality is on the low end with the straps being very thin, no padding, and plastic clip tighteners. (Maybe if it was redesigned...?) I have gone back to my Herm Sprenger prong collar. You pay a lot, but the quality is unmatched. And yes, my Rott still pulls - big time!

Instruction Video a Must

This lead is truly a miracle, we were leary at first when a colleague of my wife's mentioned that the one she bought didn't work and was useless. My wife later learned she didn't watch the instructional video. After watching the video I can see why it wouldn't work if you didn't watch the video, maybe that's why you find the words "MUST WATCH VIDEO"on the package, anyway, it works great.

the gentle leader is great for those dogs that will tolerate it. I sometimes walk 20 shelter dogs a day. The strongest pullers (usually pit bulls) are often the most resistant. After discovering the walk follows the placement of the headcollar, dogs usually get over it. But a rare few never do. If your dog absolutely won't wear one, try a slip lead at the very top of the neck, under the jaw. when he starts to tug, you need to correct immediately. If you let him put his nose to the ground you will have to keep re-adjusting. Keep his head up, and he will stop trying to sniff the ground after a little while.

I have used this collar on 2 very crazy, and strong, dogs for about 8 months now. It's true they adjust & can still pull a little; but as long as I reel them in on the leash, I have total control.

Didn't help after he got used to it

Our dog walked ok with it the first few times, but then didn't care about the uncomfortable pressure when he pulled. Even though I kept adjusting and adjusting it, our 90lb 3 yr old lab would pull so hard the bottom loop would pull to the side and the top loops would squish up into his eye. You'd think he'd not like that and stop pulling but apparently he didn't mind. He began losing hair on his nose where the strap would rub.
I went back to a choke chain and now he's nearly a loose leash walker...you just have to be consistently firm.

We purchased this lead for our 10 mo old Great Dane. What a miracle!!! She walked beautifully with it!.. BUT- We noticed after a few walks with the lead that one of her eyes was sagging. We took her to the vet and they said it was most likely from the lead and that if he could not flip her inner eyelid back into place, that she may need surgery. If it doesn't flip back there is a possibility of blindness over time. We are now headed to a pet optometrist. We are very disappointed, as we thought we found 'the answer' which has now turned into a problem...

We have an English Springer Spaniel that is 50 lbs of muscle! Great dog - but walking was NOT fun until we got this collar. AMAZING difference! I feel confident taking him for long walks alone now because this gives you total control over the dog no matter the situation!
I tell people about it all the time.

This is BY FAR the best invention for dogs!! I am so amazed by quickly it changed my dog'd behavior. I have a German Jagdterrier, after having large breed dogs my whole life. Needless to say having a "terrier" is much different. Walking him was miserable until I got the Gentle Leader. Now we can enjoy leisurely walks. INCREDIBLE product. Make sure you follow all directions and fit properly.
