I have had this same Fishmate UV filter for many years! I purchased this one to replace the original one I purchased when I first built my Koi pond several years ago!

Best Answer: No, it can not be submersed in the water; it is meant for external use. The canister can be in-ground with lid exposed if desired. Hope this helps!
