Does it have a hard or soft bottom?
Gary R on Nov 2, 2013
Best Answer: The crate has a soft bottom because it is made of canvas and stabilized by extension rods that lock the shape of the crate. This crate is the choice of professional dog handlers, where the dogs are already crate trained. I highly recommend this product when you need to travel with a crate. We use 2 sizes, large (70# DOG) and extra large (85# DOG) when we are camping and when dog sitters or a trainer needs to confine one dog while working with the other. I put a crate pad in the bottom and they are happy campers. I also love the air flow and easy access to side loading. We have collapsible wire crates, but prefer the ease of setup (locking pins) and portability (light weight with a carrying handle) that are just as sturdy as the wire ones. They are also durable to dog paws, dog nails, and noses pushing against the mesh. GREAT PRODUCT!!!

Can I start using this crate from when we first get our puppy? Or does he need to be crate trained first in a wire crate?
Kristen F on Feb 16, 2015
Best Answer: You can use this crate for you puppy, but remember they are mouthy. The explore their world and learn by putting everything in their mouths. Most puppies will chew anything they can get their mouth around and this soft crate may not hold up to a chewer. Also, crating a puppy is usually a teaching aid to help potty train them. They don't generally soil the place where they sleep. So if you are getting the crate big enough for the puppy to grow into, make sure you block off enough of the space so the puppy can just lay down and stretch his legs. I used a plastic laundry crate to block off the back portion of my larger adult size crate until my dog grew into it.

Does this crate have an odor issue?
darlene h on Oct 6, 2013
Best Answer: I'm not sure what you mean by this. All new items have a slight odor but we always air things like beds and pads out (outside) before allowing a pet to use it.

Or did you mean does the crate absorb odors from the dog? So far this hasn't been an issue for us.

Right now we have 3 soft-Krates in our bedroom. Each one has a fleece pad in it. To keep them from smelling "doggy," the crates are vacuumed and aired outside on the porch about once a month while the fleece pads are washed at the same time. And of course, the dogs are bathed as needed (but not too often to cause skin problems!!)

These crates are light weight and easy to set up. None of our dogs are chewers and truth is, we seldom zip them up. We bought them for travel but ended up using them all the time.

I have two older noztonoz crates which I love - take them camping and to trials all time. However, I need another one -- do the newer ones still have the tension pole setup on the upper edge and do the windows have rolldown covers. I need that feature when crated at trials?
N. W on May 29, 2015
Best Answer: Yes they have tension poles on the top edge that you get to the the zip open top. No they don't have roll down covers, so the picture online is not exactly accurate. (I just throw a sheet over mine.) Not sure what the straps on top are either. Mine has a carry handle on the side. Unfortunately the one I recently bought had a defective tension pole. Because I had an old crate of the same size (with a chewed-through cover), I just used the new cover on the old frame. I do like this crate though.

How big is the actual opening on the 30?
SpecialEd on Jan 9, 2015
Best Answer: I don't have the actual measurements, as I bought the 42". There are front and side doors. Both doors only a couple of inches smaller than the crate side, so they are quite large. I use the 42" with my German Shepherds and they're very roomy and comfortable.

Can the 26" crate be carried safely by the handle? My dogs are about 20#
Mary S on Aug 10, 2015
Best Answer: I have 2 Yorkies that total 14#. I haven't tried carrying them in it as they are pretty active. It is pretty large, so 20# would fit easily. We use one for crating at night and we purchased one to keep in our camper. We love it and the girls do as well!
