Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect Cage Our ferrets have always had huge cages, but this easily put together, roomy, sturdy cage is a keeper. Our boys LOVE this cage. I am now a fan of the people that make this cage. I bet this lasts 10 or more years. October 9, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by great cage, lousy packaging When the cage first arrived, one front panel, both shelves and both pans were all damaged. There was virtually no padding for the tightly packed 100 lb. package. customer service was very helpful. They had UPS pick up the whole cage(stuffed back in the box as well as I could get it. Lol.), and had another sent out to me. The second one also had some damaged parts, though not nearly as many as the first. I had to call customer service again to replace one of the floor pans but I was able to bang the bent metal parts into working order. I was delighted with the customer service at and the speedy delivery(not counting return and replacement time). Midwest however, needs to do some serious reconsideration of their shabby packaging. Rated 5 out of 5 by LOVE. THIS. CAGE!!! I used to have a crappy, hard to clean cage for my two fur butts. I dreaded cleaning day. Then I saw this one and HAD to get it. It was a big expense for us, but soooo worth it! I love how both the top and bottom doors open up completely so you have easy access to all areas of the cage. Everything comes out easy and can be cleaned in a snap! I also love how the cage is on locking casters, so you can easily move the cage for cleaning or relocation. The cage was a bit difficult to put together and required both myself and my husband. However, now that it's put together it is extremely sturdy. One note for when you are putting it together: make sure you are installing the doors right side up. Silly me, I wasn't paying attention and installed one set of doors upside down, and when I went to open them one of the doors came off and almost broke my finger! At the same time, I found that when they are installed properly you can take the doors off if you need to. My only wish with this system is that the bottom pan had a higher lip. One of my ferrets refuses to use a litter box, so I have to fill the bottom pan with litter, which ends up scattered everywhere. I am waiting on scatter guards to come in the mail, so hopefully this will solve the problem. All in all, this cage is AMAZING and I would recommend it to everyone! September 5, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by overall good product my only piece of advise would be to have a rubber mallot and maybe a pair of plyers ready when you go to assemble. i found several of the clips were bent, weather from shipping or factory? and because some of the tubing was slightly twisted i needed the use of a mallot to drive pieces together. once installed the cage is great, very roomy and and very pet friendly, good luck! Rated 2 out of 5 by Poor Quality For a cage with a great design; HORRIBLE quality control. Midwest should be ashamed. Doors snap, don't line up, frames are crooked, shelves won't fit in holes [soldered wrong], painted chipped off, plastic pans broken, and whole product was terribly banged up in shipping. The door frames being completely off square and the shelves not soldered right are NOT shipping problems however, these are manufacturing issues and their manufacturing quality is terrible. I love the design, I just think they don't care at all how poor the delivered product is. And I've ordered two, BTW. Second was worse than the first. There is no protection in the box, just bare metal in a plain cardboard box. Midwest deserves someone to copy the design and improve on the quality control. All this cage really has that is unique are the fully opening doors. Easily copied. April 3, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Ferret Home The habitat is drop shipped so it comes with Happy Feet ramp covers. Zoey likes it enough that after running around she'll zip up the ramp and go to sleep inside. Good quality but make sure you latch the doors well. March 15, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Amazing Easiest cage I've had to clean. The bottom panels come out making deap cleaning a synch. Doors on both levels open completely also helps with cleaning and rearranging. No more bending my arm all sorts of odd directions. :D Very strudy, have had this cage for a year now and nothing has broke. Looks nice so doesnt make your room look bad. Also, love the smaller spacing, I have a small female and she somehow found a way out of the other two cages I had and my little escape artist still has not found a way out of this one. One peice of the cage was a little warped from shipping but nothing a little man power could'nt fix. Overall this has been the best cage ever! I just wish I would have bought it first. My ferrets love all the room and play space! I did end up getting the little ramp for them to easily get in and out of it since the bottom storage shelf doesnt detach. January 30, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Cage for Ferrets ever I have this cage, and it's easy to clean. For the money is very sturdy, and they can't get out of it while I'm at work. I bought the cover for it which they seem to love since they love dark. U can't go wrong with this cage. October 13, 2010
Rated 4 out of 5 by One thing.... There is one small probelum, the floor is smooth and there is no room to put bedding so if your fuzz shark likes to dig it will tear the botton and ull have to get a new cage. other wise, its a pretty cage September 23, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Happy Rats!!! I have a large number of rescue rats. I ordered this cage, and keep 13 boys in it. There is plenty of room for them, and they love the room. I had no trouble with shipping, it arrived in great condition. I am going to buy another in the next couple of weeks for all of my rescue girls. This is by far the best cage, and for those of you complaining about pans, buy a large sheet of Choroplast sign board, and make trays that fit in it. It is easy to work with, and will provide the sides you are looking for. August 29, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by The Best of the best in ferret cages. I have this cage and the extra cage that goes on top.I own 13 ferrets and all of them fit nicely. The cage gives plenty of room for your fuzz faces to play and sleep.Access to the cage makes life much easier to clean / fill water and food bowls / and rearrange things / as well as getting your little fuzzy out for play time or what ever. This cage by far is the best for value , I highly recommend this cage to anyone wanting a good home for their fur face or faces to be happy. However beware , if you decide this is the cage you want you might come down with a disease known as FERRETMULTIPLYUS!!!!!!! Rated 4 out of 5 by CN defective I ordered two of these cages from Both cages arrived with almost every single part damaged. This is a cage you would want to purchase at a store and verify each part was in good condition before purchasing. The manufacturer does not use packing material which I assume is a factor in the damage. I am waiting to see if I will be getting replacement parts or a refund. July 21, 2009
Rated 5 out of 5 by Finally! This is a great cage with lots of room for my babies. The cage is very sturdy, and I love how the doors open all the way. It did take two people to put it together, but it went up pretty fast. The last cage I had was much smaller, and the shelves were all breaking off and not safe for my fuzzies. I am glad that I finally found something that my babies are happy and safe in. I wish I would have found this cage when I first got my fur kids! July 16, 2009
Rated 5 out of 5 by BRILLIANT FERRET CONDO! I've had 3 different houses for my ferret and this is by far the best one I've had! It's huge, strong, easy to move, clean and arrange beds/hammocks/toys! We added carpet to all the floors except the bottom where the food and litter box are. The only down fall (which is easily fixed) is it doesn't come with a ramp to get out of it. You can order it separate or you can make one. (easier to buy it) Spoil your ferrets, they will be happy ferrets! June 12, 2009
Rated 5 out of 5 by gooooooood it is the best June 7, 2009
Rated 5 out of 5 by The Best Cage I love this cage. It is sooo easy to clean and gives you lots of room for your ferrets or other critters. It is a little pricey but the only cage you should ever have to buy. I highly recommend. May 12, 2009
Rated 5 out of 5 by Genious I have 4 pet rats in this 142. They have SO MUCH ROOM to play, and they ADORE IT! I have only one complaint and that is that the pans are not very deep, which seems to be a pretty classic issue with it - we have to vacuum little rat raisins off the carpet on a daily basis. However this is not a deal killer for me because there is so much room and the pans come out of the cage so easily, and it is set up to prevent dangerous falls and allow maximum romp room. Love it! Rated 5 out of 5 by Friend just got this. My friend and I are rat lovers, and we've been fighting with finding the right cages. We have both males and females and keep them separate. She recently got the Critter Nation 1-level for her girls and I have to say it's the best cage I've ever seen. Bedding doesn't work, so she attached fleece to the bottom and the shelf, so that she can just pull it out, attach new fleece and wash the dirty. It's been a godsend for her, both in convenience and cleanliness. It's making it easier to litter train her rats too, which is going well. She's got me sold, that's for sure. I'm going to be buying the two-story Critter Nation for my fuzzbutts, and will keep the boys and girls separated with one cage instead of having the 'big' cage, the 'quarantine' cage, the 'you're too small to fit in the big cage' cage... and having one of these for each gender? Forget it. Now we'll just have the main cage and the quarantine. Awesome! April 10, 2009
Rated 5 out of 5 by Worth every penny and more! I wish I had not waited so long to finally buy this cage!!! Cleaning was my biggest challenge with the last cage I owned. It is a breeze with this cage as the doors open wide and can be removed if needed. The bottom of each level has a pan that is easily removed and I just toss em in the tub for easy scrubbin. The two levels are made so that you can lock the ramp up which is wonderful when you have a sick fuzzy or one fresh out from an operation. Shelf on the bottom to store items and the wheels work well even on carpet. Be easiest to have two people for assembly which wasn't too hard from what I remember. I've had my cage for a couple years now and it's still like brand new. BYE THIS CAGE if you have the money it's worth saving for and will make you life and your Fuzzbut's much easier and happier :D April 6, 2009
Rated 5 out of 5 by Rats love it I got this cage to house my rats in. The bar spacing makes it the perfect cage for babies and small females which is what drew me to the cage in the first place. I was tired of waiting until the young ones were large enough to be put in the "big kid" cages. Now I can house all my fur kids together after quarantine. You can block off the levels if intros aren't going well. The cage is easy to clean with a simple wipe down. Both doors open wide to make cleaning easier. You cannot use bedding in these cages however or the bedding will end up all over the floor due to the shallow pans. The only negative remark I have is simply with the arrival condition of this cage which for the most part has been sub-par. Many with this cage say it is hit or miss. Mine was a miss. I did have to order a new wheel and new pans (pans were cracked in shipping) but it's easy to talk to the company to get those shipped free of charge. I love this cage and very much recommend it to any rat owner. I myself have the two story and wouldn't go smaller with my six. They love the space it provides! March 25, 2009

what will delivery date be?
Cherie J on Dec 5, 2014
Best Answer: It depends on what method of shipping you pick. Economy is 7-10 business days, Ground is 2-6. Then there is 3 day, 2 day, and 1 day. Please note that expedited shipping needs to be placed by 2pm EST. Hope this helps.

Does the cage come with the stand?
A shopper on Nov 14, 2015
Best Answer: Yes it does come with a stand as long as you order the single Critter Nation or the Double. If you order the "add on" unit, it does not come with a stand.

Can this go outside for housing 2 small rabbits?
A shopper on Aug 2, 2014
Best Answer: It is well built and powder coated, but I don't think it would stand up to the outdoor elements. It's much better to house rabbits indoors, for their health and safety. This cage is ideal for limited spaces. I use it to house two pairs of rabbits - one pair on each level. Mind you, they also have ample time each day to roam free.

That being said, I think this cage would be ideal for two bunnies. Is it quite spacious, allowing plenty of room for litterbox, lounging, toys and food. Wheels allow it to be moved easily, and the wheels can be locked to keep the cage in place. It's also quite an attractive cage that would blend in with your decor. You have the ability to keep them separated (a must if they are not spayed/neutered or bonded. Just keep each one on their own level. When they are ready to be together you can activate the ramp between level. Be sure to use the ramp covers provided so that their feet don't get caught in the bars of the ramp. The included "shelves" are a favorite lounging spot.

Can you separate the top section from the bottom?
karen h on Jan 30, 2014
Best Answer: Yes it can be separated to use as 2 different cages. The ramp going to the bottom of the cage can be lifted up and locked in place separating the 2. There's a little hook in there that can be missed. I have 5 rats that I separated 3 on top and 2 on the bottom. The rats didn't get along, but the problem I had was the rats on the bottom would bite the feet of the rats on top through the cage. So just have to cover the ramp with something so their feet wouldn't be open. Something to think about I guess. But yes you can separate them.

Do this cage come with the bottom floor pan? If not does it come with any accessories? Thanks
Heath W on Dec 26, 2013
Best Answer: The cage comes with two floor pans (one for each level). In addition, it comes with two "shelves" each with its own pan. These shelves
can be placed at three different heights - on either the left or right side of the cage. The shelf provides a loft area for playing or resting. The cage also comes with wire ramps that can be used between shelf area and main floor and/or to provide access between the two main levels of the cage. There's also a fleece like cover for the ramps so that pet's feet don't get caught.

Can the doors go on the bottom level?
A shopper on Nov 2, 2015
Best Answer: Both top and bottom levels are same. They both have wide opening doors. The upper level has an entry opening to travel to lower level. And of course it has a bottom shelf for storage. We love it!

are there guards for the sides to keep the mess contained?
spring c on Jul 22, 2015
Best Answer: Yes. They work well enough but start to rust over (a fairly long) period of time. You definitely need *something* to help if you are using aspen or carefresh or any other type of bedding. A lot of folks use towels or fabric on the floors instead and in that case you wouldn't need the barriers. Alternately, you could get bass pans instead. They fit perfectly and last longer and are easier to clean. All that being said, I used those edge things for years and they worked well for me against very industrious, busy girls and their need to push aspen everywhere.

does this model cage have actual thick plastic trays or thin piece of plastic?
Ashley M on Feb 10, 2015
Best Answer: The trays are pretty substantial not thin like bird cage trays. They're also really easy to remove from the cage to clean. My only complaint is their texture makes them a little more difficult to clean. But I would definitely recommend this cage it's one of the best I've seen out there.

Would this be a good option for an adult rabbit?
A shopper on Jul 16, 2015
Best Answer: The cage is definitely higher than it is wide. I'm not familiar with rabbits as pets, but if you don't think they'd safely use the ramps to go up to a different level, I think you could probably find something different that would work better. Also, if rabbits like to have floor space in their habitat, again, I would look at different options. I bought this for my sugar gliders and it's great for them.

Is this the two level cage and why is it 180$?
A shopper on Feb 26, 2015
Best Answer: This a very well made cage. It has two full floors and two shelves for lots of room. As a fancy rat breeder, I owned a few of these cages. They are powder coated, not just painted, so the finish holds up a little better than regular painted wire cages. As you can see, the Double Critter Nation is a large cage. It is one of the best cages out there for small animals such as rats and chinchillas. However, if you animals are not litter trained, you may need to order special pans for the cage to hold bedding, as the trays they come with are too shallow to hold wood shavings or paper based bedding. Depending on what animal(s) you are shopping for, this cage may be the best one you ever buy. It's full sized doors, top and bottom, make it easy to clean. And the top and bottom units can be used separately, by folding up the center ramp and locking it, so it's essentially two cages in one.
