Excellent, well made product. Hard for one person to put together because the sides had to be hammered a little with a rubber mallet. Otherwise easy to do. Now to home depot or lowes to buy a concrete mixer pan that will fit in the bottoms and the litter won't fly out. Very happy with this cage.

No tools needed!
While true if you buy this cage you may want a rubber mallet or hammer with padding to pound some if the side panels into place they by no means slipped right in.
I grabbed this cage while it was on sale and am so far very happy with the look of it once the cage was built the inner assembly went quickly. Instructions are kinda tough to follow but once you get past the first steps its just repeat, repeat, repeat. May want to have a second person help as lining up holes with pegs is a pain but after an hour the cage came together and now awaiting the arrival of my fuzzys from Vegas.

Rated 5 out of 5 by PETER PATTERSON Love It!!
Reading other reviews had me worried that the cage might be damaged upon arrival, but there was no damage except for the box. The cage assembled fairly easy with the help from a mallet. It even came with the ramp covers so my fuzzies won't get their feet caught :) We are all happy with this product!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Eileen Butler-Pacheco bought 4 of these cages
First one arrived fine the last 3 boxes where mangeled (fed Ex) when I wrote ferret nation and sent photos of cracked and chipped trays and bent metal they did nothing!!! My only complaint with the cages is wish the trays where made of a flamica or smootH type material, it would make cleaning go faster.

Rated 5 out of 5 by beth1960 Awesome ferret home!!
I've had this cage for 2 years and it has been wonderful, this is a heavy iron cage, not cheap in any way, easy, easy to clean and my boys love it! I'm positive it will last the lifetime of my ferrets and beyond! Again, this is no cheap lightweight cage, it's very heavy and rolls along on wheels, so nice!! You won't be sorry and your little guys will love you for it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by KELLY HECKMAN Easy to assemble.
The cage just arrived. Took me about 30 minutes to assemble - hardest part was getting it up the stairs because it's so heavy. I did us a rubber mallet twice to get the sides all the way in. Arrived in good shape. There is a chip in the one shelf but it doesn't affect anything - it's on the side of the shelf. Everything else was in perfect shape. Can't wait to see how our ferrets like it. So far I'm extremely happy with this cage.

My mother had order this cage for me as a Christmas gift. Assembly was easy. It's huge, and although I haven't had to clean it yet, it seems like it's going to be the easiest cage to clean ever! My only complaint was that two of the three floor pans were cracked when I received them. Unlike the other reviews with the complaints on the packaging I understand how difficult it would be the have this large and heavy of a cage arrive with zero damage. I simply emailed the customer service on the midwest homes for pets website and told them the issue. Within two days, I received a reply stating that they had already shipped out the replacement pans. Prompt and excellent customer service through the manufacturer made this cage even better to me. My mom also said how great the ferret.com customer service had been. So all in all, regardless of poor packaging, this cage is well worth the large price tag. (Which ferret.com also beats all other competitors at.) Number one priority- My rats love their new cage!

Rated 5 out of 5 by happyrats great cage
My rats love the cage. Arrived with broken trays though and the door snaps do not line up. Had to do some rigging to get everything to fit. Otherwise a great cage.

Why did you choose this?
what will delivery date be?
Best Answer: It depends on what method of shipping you pick. Economy is 7-10 business days, Ground is 2-6. Then there is 3 day, 2 day, and 1 day. Please note that expedited shipping needs to be placed by 2pm EST. Hope this helps.
Can this go outside for housing 2 small rabbits?
Best Answer: It is well built and powder coated, but I don't think it would stand up to the outdoor elements. It's much better to house rabbits indoors, for their health and safety. This cage is ideal for limited spaces. I use it to house two pairs of rabbits - one pair on each level. Mind you, they also have ample time each day to roam free.
That being said, I think this cage would be ideal for two bunnies. Is it quite spacious, allowing plenty of room for litterbox, lounging, toys and food. Wheels allow it to be moved easily, and the wheels can be locked to keep the cage in place. It's also quite an attractive cage that would blend in with your decor. You have the ability to keep them separated (a must if they are not spayed/neutered or bonded. Just keep each one on their own level. When they are ready to be together you can activate the ramp between level. Be sure to use the ramp covers provided so that their feet don't get caught in the bars of the ramp. The included "shelves" are a favorite lounging spot.
Does the cage come with the stand?
Best Answer: Comes as pictured, minus the happy people and critters.
Can you separate the top section from the bottom?
Best Answer: Yes it can be separated to use as 2 different cages. The ramp going to the bottom of the cage can be lifted up and locked in place separating the 2. There's a little hook in there that can be missed. I have 5 rats that I separated 3 on top and 2 on the bottom. The rats didn't get along, but the problem I had was the rats on the bottom would bite the feet of the rats on top through the cage. So just have to cover the ramp with something so their feet wouldn't be open. Something to think about I guess. But yes you can separate them.
Do this cage come with the bottom floor pan? If not does it come with any accessories? Thanks
Best Answer: The cage comes with two floor pans (one for each level). In addition, it comes with two "shelves" each with its own pan. These shelves
can be placed at three different heights - on either the left or right side of the cage. The shelf provides a loft area for playing or resting. The cage also comes with wire ramps that can be used between shelf area and main floor and/or to provide access between the two main levels of the cage. There's also a fleece like cover for the ramps so that pet's feet don't get caught.
Can the doors go on the bottom level?
Best Answer: Both top and bottom levels are same. They both have wide opening doors. The upper level has an entry opening to travel to lower level. And of course it has a bottom shelf for storage. We love it!
are there guards for the sides to keep the mess contained?
Best Answer: Yes. They work well enough but start to rust over (a fairly long) period of time. You definitely need *something* to help if you are using aspen or carefresh or any other type of bedding. A lot of folks use towels or fabric on the floors instead and in that case you wouldn't need the barriers. Alternately, you could get bass pans instead. They fit perfectly and last longer and are easier to clean. All that being said, I used those edge things for years and they worked well for me against very industrious, busy girls and their need to push aspen everywhere.
does this model cage have actual thick plastic trays or thin piece of plastic?
Best Answer: The trays are pretty substantial not thin like bird cage trays. They're also really easy to remove from the cage to clean. My only complaint is their texture makes them a little more difficult to clean. But I would definitely recommend this cage it's one of the best I've seen out there.
Would this be a good option for an adult rabbit?
Best Answer: The cage is definitely higher than it is wide. I'm not familiar with rabbits as pets, but if you don't think they'd safely use the ramps to go up to a different level, I think you could probably find something different that would work better. Also, if rabbits like to have floor space in their habitat, again, I would look at different options. I bought this for my sugar gliders and it's great for them.
Is this the two level cage and why is it 180$?
Best Answer: This a very well made cage. It has two full floors and two shelves for lots of room. As a fancy rat breeder, I owned a few of these cages. They are powder coated, not just painted, so the finish holds up a little better than regular painted wire cages. As you can see, the Double Critter Nation is a large cage. It is one of the best cages out there for small animals such as rats and chinchillas. However, if you animals are not litter trained, you may need to order special pans for the cage to hold bedding, as the trays they come with are too shallow to hold wood shavings or paper based bedding. Depending on what animal(s) you are shopping for, this cage may be the best one you ever buy. It's full sized doors, top and bottom, make it easy to clean. And the top and bottom units can be used separately, by folding up the center ramp and locking it, so it's essentially two cages in one.
Is this gage the 161 model?
Best Answer: This cage has 1/2" spaces, which makes it nice for smaller critters, like Sugar Gliders. I do believe it is the 161 double cage. The big doors are great, however I recommend getting the cover for it to keep any mess down and the trays have to be cleaned offend. For my gliders, I now use a cage that has a tray under the bottom, so my little friends are not walking through their droppings. If you use any bedding on the trays, like wood chips, you want to put sides on it to keep them in the cage. Good luck!
